Shooting “A Need To Do” within a Discovery Channel shorts competition

10Aug08

I saw these Mad Max like vehicles for a couple of years now.
I was thinking about photo documenting the phenomenon,
as there are about 30 registered vehicles of this kind around the village
where reside their inventor, Mr. Nidu.
when the Discovery shorts competition came up and some work colleagues
asked me fot help with an idea and producing the documentary.

So everything happened very fast: planning, organizing and producing the idea.
My parents were of a lot of help as we stayed in their countryside home.
I found the inventor through a gypsy friend from the area, so thank you Ion.
And thanks again, mom & dad.
And thanks again Adi [my younger cousin] for
helping out with the shooting.

Below are some images taken during the video shoot.

shortly after building the first one he managed to get registration plates and circulate on rural roads.

Mr. Nidu launched a trend with his invention-adaptation.
Nowadays there are around 30 such vehicles in the area.

the vehicles are used for carrying the peasants up on the mountain where they’re scything
as well as for large transports of wood, stones, etc.
Mr. Nidu thought of a vehicle in order to replace the horse and the carriage which were costing much more money on the long term, besides being less efficient up in the mountain.
