Within the Romanian National Theatre Festival on Wednesday, Nov 4th & on Thursday, Nov 5th at 10pm, LUNI Theater has scheduled “The Concrete”.
Its plot is simple: three young people in a futuristic Moscow go out for a night of clubbing involving repeated visits to the “Literary Archives”, virtual-reality spaces where they enter and consume common and famous classical writings. Their own language is a slang filled with imported Chinese terms while their bodies have been genetically and surgically altered.
Sorokin’s parable, dramatized by Alex Mihaescu, shows what we may become, without any moralizing intent – one can experience the most exciting “trips” by penetrating the flesh of fiction, plunging into the storyline like one does bungee-jumping.
CAST:
KOLIA – Marius Damian
MASHA – Katia Pascariu
MASHENKA – Monica Sandulescu
VJ – Cinty
Directed by: Alexandru Mihaescu
Costume design: Carmen Secareanu

Naturally following the director’s interest in community theater, Make Room! is the expression of the revolt of a generation against an incompetent state apparatus that is indifferent to ordinary people’s problems – in this case, the serious problem of losing one’s dwelling as a result of the enforcement of the Property Law. Using as an ordering axis a series of interviews with the cast, who are asked questions meant to reveal the actors as they are in their private lives, the show becomes an amazing mixture of reality and fiction. To have or not to have – that is the question asked by David Schwartz, the stage director, and Mihaela Michailov, the playwright, to both the actors and – indirectly – the audience, in a lively show filled with humor, but in fact extremely serious.

Within the Romanian National Theatre Festival there are two scheduled performances of Make Room: on Saturday, Oct 31st at 10 pm and on Sunday, Nov 1st, 10pm at Teatrul LUNI Green Hours

“100 to watch – Directory of Contemporary Romanian Artists” is launched today, October 20th in Berlin, at the Plan B Gallery. Besides the album you can check the online version of “100 to watch“
Here’s how the authors of the project define “100 to watch“:
“The creative scene in Romania is one of the most vibrant and exciting in Europe. This directory was put together to illustrate what makes it so special. A listing of 100 of the most talented artists in Romania today, from conceptual art to contemporary dance, literature and theatre to music and fashion, it’s a snapshot of an entire generation – the Romanian New Wave. Every single artist between these pages is part of the reason why Romania is such an exciting place to be right now. It’s indicative of just how much talent there is in the Romanian New Wave.”
Well, I feel honored and excited to be part of this directory with Brum Conspiracy.

We’ve got a TOY!!!
last week Piti and I went at the unveiling of Matei Apostolescu’s toys collection.
